Surfers Paradise, Australia – October 17, 2007 – Mexican driver David Martinez had the chance to walk around the fast and tricky street course in Surfers Paradise for the first time today alongside his engineer, Brandon Fry, in preparation for this weekend’s Lexmark Indy 300.

After a long trip to Australia, Martinez has spent most of his time here fulfilling media and promotional activities prior to the race, but that hasn’t affected his concentration and enthusiasm for this event which will mark the first time that he drives a Champ Car around a temporary street circuit.

Before traveling to Australia Martinez took advantage of the time he spent at his hometown of Monterrey, Mexico, to continue an ongoing media promotional campaign for the Gran Premio Tecate Presented by Banamex, which will take place in Mexico City November 9-10.

“I´m really happy to finally be in Australia.  I had been thinking about this race all year and just hoping that I could be here driving and now it a reality.  It really is a beautiful city, you immediately feel the buzz that surrounds this race.  Now I can see why this event is so popular and why it is so important to Champ Car.  Before coming here I sat down for hours studying videos from previous races to familiarize myself with the track, but there is definitely nothing like the real thing.  Today I had the chance to walk around the track with my engineer Brandon Fry and I realized just how fast and technical this track is, especially around the chicanes.  Walking around was great but now I just can’t wait to get in the car and do my first laps.”
